Punching holes into fabric?

I am trying to make a quilt. But this is a different kind of quilt. Each square has a hole in each of the corners, and through this hole a ribbon is put and then tied to the ribbons of the corresponding square. My question is how do I punch a hole into fabric to get the ribbon through!
