How can I conjure a spirit? (Actual believers please!)?

I know this is going to sound extremely dumb, but I really want to conjure the spirit of Edgar Allan Poe...I have been told meditating can help, but I've tried. I don't have an ouija board, so that's out. How else can I do it? And how long will it take effect?
