Mt Merapi in Central Java, Indonesia, is a very active volcano of the composite type. It lies above a subduction zone, so is related to a convergent plate boundary. The cause of the volcanism is the melting of water-laden sediments and material from the down-going oceanic plate, hence the convergent plate margin cuases the volcano, not vice-versa.
