Are there wild alligators in North Carolina? If so, what is there range?

Although the official range extends through the far eastern end of the state almost to the Virginia border they can, and do survive further west and north, into the southeastern tip of Virginia. Laws protecting them and changes in the landscape due to highways, bridges and dams have allowed them access to more territory than they originally inhabited. Actual range at this time is unkown to the best of my knowledge.
